My grandparents were generous enough to buy me a Google Home for Christmas last year. Daniel assumed it would be another of those things we’d never use (like the juicer he gave me for my birthday and the cross trainer we use to hang our towels on).
What a blunder he made!
Our Google Home was used every day, so when it came time to decorate Ella’s nursery, I wanted to get a mini Google Home so that I could play music from my Spotify account. We’ve always used music to calm Ella down and get her to sleep, as I described in my previous blog.

The Google Home is unique in that you can connect it to your Spotify account and access it from your smartphone. So, if Ella wakes up in the middle of the night, I can press a button on my phone and the lullaby playlist will begin playing in her room, allowing me to get back to sleep without having to get out of bed.
While I was shocked to see in our “2018 Spotify wrap” that we’d listened to 53,623 minutes of music this year (most of which was just to get Ella to sleep! ), the combination of Spotify and Google Home has made our lives so much simpler.
