Google Docs is a favourite word processor for many folks. However, a lot of people feel restricted by the few fonts that are available to choose from.

Luckily, you can add fonts into Google Docs. There are a couple ways to do this including obtaining more pre-installed fonts from Google Docs and using an add-on for external fonts.

Can You Use Your Computer’s Fonts With Google Docs?

As of the writing, you can’t upload fonts from the personal computer to Google Docs. You may just use the fonts which include Google Docs and you can get a few more fonts using an extension.

Use The Fonts Menu To Use & Find More Fonts

The ribbon picker on Google Docs only shows a limited variety of fonts. There is a range of other fonts which you may use by enlarging the menu.

  • Open your existing record or create a new document with Google Docs.
  • Click the font picker arrow in the toolbar and choose More fonts. This will open a fresh window.

  • You’ll now find quite a few fonts that weren’t available in the font picker. You can search for your favourite fonts by typing their names from the search box.

  • Click on several different options at the top to form fonts by scripts, font types, and various sorting requests.
  • As soon as you find the font you prefer, click on the ribbon and it’ll be added into your own fonts list. Click OK at the bottom to close the fonts window.
  • Your selected font will now be utilised in your present Google Docs document.
  • Google Docs lets you maintain a list of your favourite fonts from that More fonts window. You can add and remove fonts from there so it’s an organized list of your favourite fonts.


Use Additional Fonts In Google Docs For Mobile

It is possible to change fonts on your documents on the Google Docs program for Android and iOS too. This program lists all available fonts on a single screen for you to pick from.

  • Launch the Google Docs app on your phone and start your file.
  • Tap the pencil icon in the lower-right corner to edit your document.

  • The moment you tap a font, your chosen text will use this. Then tap the checkmark icon at the top to go back to the editing screen.

Use An Add-On To Add Fonts To Google Docs

One way to include external fonts into Google Docs would be to use an add-on. There’s an add-on called Extensis Fonts that allows you to insert over 900 fonts to Google Docs. You have to install and integrate it with your account, which may be performed as follows.

Install Extensis Fonts In Google Docs

  • Open a Present document or create a new document in Google Docs.
  • Click on the Add-ons menu at the top and select Get add-ons.

  • You’ll see G Suite Marketplace that offers a variety of add-ons to utilize with Google Docs. Put your cursor in the search area, type Extensis Fonts, and hit Enter.

  • Click the sole Extensis Fonts add-on on your screen.
  • You will now see a blue button that states Install. Click it to put in the Extensis Fonts add-on in your Google Docs account.

  • Select Continue in the prompt.
  • Choose the Google account that you want to apply this add-in in.
  • Review info sharing information for the add-on and click Permit at the bottom.

The Extensis Fonts add-on must currently be available in Google Docs.

Add Fonts To Google Docs With Extensis Fonts

Contrary to the default Google Docs fonts, you can’t pick a font from the Extensis Fonts add-on and start typing. You must have some text in your file already, and then you’ll be able to use a font from this add-on to format your text.

  • Choose the text in your file that you want to change the font.
  • Click on the Add-ons menu at the top and select Extensis Fonts followed by Start.
  • A new widget will open on the side of your screen. This pane has many fonts to choose from for your text.
  • Click on the font you wish to apply to your text and your text will instantly use that font.
  • You can click on various sorting options in the Extensions Fonts’ pane to readily find the font you’re searching for.

When you’ve implemented a font to your own text from Extensis Fonts, you can sort using that font for as long as you want.

Establish a Newly Added Font Default In Google Docs

When you’ve found the font you were searching for, you can place that font as the default so all of your future files use it.

  • Select some text in your Google Docs document.
  • Click the font picker to choose a built-in Google Docs ribbon or utilize the Add-ons menu to select a font from Extensis Fonts.
  • Employ your selected font in your text.
  • Click the Format menu on top, select Paragraph styles, click Normal Text, and select Update’Normal text’ to match.
  • Make sure your text remains selected. Click on the Format menu, pick Paragraph styles, click Options, and select Save as my default fashions.
  • Google Docs will now use your chosen font as the default font for all your documents.
  • You can reset your font preferences by clicking Format > Paragraph styles > Options > Reset styles. You then will need to save your reset style as the default option like you did previously.

You can not add a personalized font of your own choice to Google Docs however you can certainly enjoy many fonts that the above third party add-on has to offer you.
