Mouse Keeps Freezing in Windows 7/8/10: Solved

Most of the people must have encountered the problem when the Mouse freezes or hangs i.e. Stops are moving while the user is working on the system while using a Windows 7/8/10 computer. It may create a problem while a person was doing and left the person get stuck thinking why that happens? Most of the times, this thing happens for a brief period say for a few seconds and then it starts moving again. But sometimes it may take a while before moving again and left the user stucked. Here are some ways that will be provided to the user to solve such issues. The user needs to follow the suggested steps to get rid of the
problem.
There can be various reasons for mouse freezing like corrupt drivers, outdated drivers, bugs in the system, malware/viruses. It can also be some technical problem say when the battery is low, The cord is loose, corrupted Windows, there is some kind of connectivity problem etc.
So let’s discuss how a person can tackle this issue.

Look at the Mouse’s Battery

If the user is using wired Mouse and his Mouse is freezing, this may happen due to low battery. In this case, the user needs to either charge the battery or replace the Mouse. If the problem persists, try the next solution.

Have a look on Mechanical malfunctioning

If the user has replaced the Mouse or replaced the battery and problem is persistent then it is suggested to check if there is any physical damage like loose USB Port of PC, check if the cable is not damaged. User can also check by connecting the Mouse in another USB port.

Have a look at the TouchPad

If the user has tried both the above solutions and still the problem is there, he should try this one. In the laptops, there is a built-in touchpad device, which is used to move the cursor on the screen. In this case, if the person faces the problem of cursor freeing in Windows 7/8/10, person should once check that the trackpad didn’t get disabled by mistake.
Some key combinations can be used to enable/disable the trackpad, and these combinations are different on different laptops. Usually, the key combination is Fn + F8, but it can also be F7, F5 or F9 instead of F8, it depends on the laptop model. After clicking the keys combination, check whether the cursor is now working correctly or not.
In case these key combinations are not working, the user can also do it manually. What user has to do is go to the Control Panel, then go to the Mouse. Now the user needs to go in the last tab and look for touchpad setting. If the user is unable to find this touchpad setting, he should look for this setting with other names like Device setting, ELAN, Synapses etc. These names vary based on the manufacturer. Once the user finds it, he needs to click on settings option and enable it. If still, users mouse kept on freezing, here comes the next solution.

Bug Fixing

As it is very well known that Viruses can lead to various problems in a system so it can also be a reason for the mouse freezing. To check this, the user can scan the system for any malware or virus. For this purpose, the user needs to download an antivirus program on the system.

Mouse driver to be updated

If the problem is still there, it may be due to am outdated mouse driver. So a user needs to make sure that the driver who is there is up to the date. For this purpose, the user needs to follow these steps :
● Press Win + R key to go to Device Manager in Windows 7/8/10, inputting devmgmt.msc and then click, OK.
● Now the user needs to Expand Mice and some other pointing devices section. Now right click on the mouse driver, then click on Update driver.
● Follow the guidelines shown on the screen and finish the driver update.

Look for Windows Registry

User can also face this issue if the registry is broken. If this is the case, the user needs to use a professional tool to scan the registry for any errors and then fix it.
So these are some of the solutions users should try if the Mouse is kept on freezing on Windows 7/8/10.
